Austrian Webcams
in the Tannheim Valley
Northwest of Innsbruck, close
to the German border, lies the beautiful high valley of Tannheimertal.
The wide, green valley floor gives way to meadows, high pastures and the
partially forested mountains topped by the jagged summits of the
Allgauer Alps. A well-kept secret, it is one of the most beautiful
Alpine valley in Europe. Long, flat and peaceful, with just a scattering
of small hamlets, it offers enjoyable skiing for all levels and boasts
an idyllic lake that is home to a wide variety of wildlife, the
Vilsalpsee, the largest of the three lakes in the valley.
The valley is breathtakingly
beautiful and bristles with webcams. We picked the best:
The Tyrolean area between Arlberg
and the Kitzbueheler Alps boasts breathtaking scenery no matter what
time of year. It is ideally suited for winter sports, but it is also
popular with hang gliders and mountain bikers. Winding and twisting
through the area is a network of footpaths and tracks many of which are
accessible on easy to moderate walks. Dotted around the mountains and in
the hamlets and villages are Alpine club huts, cafes, restaurants and
bars all providing welcome refreshment including some wicked cakes and
strudels. The local community preserves many of the old traditions - the
high pastures are still farmed, prize-winning cheeses are made in the
mountains, and traditional dress is often worn.
