Kiel Canal
The Kiel Canal (in Germany known as the Nord-Ostsee Kanal) is the
world's busiest artificial waterway - more than 38.000 vessels transited in
2001. It is the safest, shortest and the most convenient shipping route
between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, saving an average of 280 nautical
miles instead of going the way around.
