White-tailed Eagle Nest This is a project of the University of Bergen at Sotra, an archipelago which consists of 1,550 large and small islands near Bergen in Norway. This unique webcam allows us to view an eagle nest. There appears to be one hatchling that was born around June 9. The camera will remain until it has become mature enough to fly. It will be interesting to watch the growth and development. See video here.
This section of Norway has long days during the summer, with daylight from 4AM until 11PM Norway time. Keep in mind the time difference and plan your viewing accordingly. If your browser does not show the time there, check the top of the webcam image to determine the approximate Norwegian time. The white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is the largest European bird of prey with a 7-foot wingspan. This impressive bird is a coastal species and prefers rocky coastlines. It is also found near rivers and large lakes, occurring several hundred miles inland in Europe and Russia. They mate for life, and breed in the same territory each year, which continue to be used by successive generations of eagles over many decades. One or two chicks hatch each year, and are cared for by both the male and the female. The chicks remain near the nest for some time, until they have learned to fly and to hunt for themselves This eagle eats fish, mammals and other birds.
